Alexander Charles-Jones was born in Gloucestershire in 1959 into a family steeped in horses, hunting and art. His father was a Master of Foxhounds and a film-maker. His mother was a talented painter and his three bothers and sister followed in their parents’ footsteps, making their careers in horse-racing, training and painting.

David Shepherd - "to start with, my life was a series of disasters". Growing up in the 1930’s, his one ambition was to be a game warden in Kenya and so, on leaving school, he went to Kenya and was promptly told by the National Parks people that he was not wanted. On returning to England, David was faced with two choices. One was ‘to drive a bus for a living’ and the other was to pursue the only other possibility: painting. However, he admits that he had very little interest in art and certainly no talent; for he was promptly rejected by the Slade School of Fine Art as ‘untrainable’.

I was born in Birmingham in 1970, the middle son of three children and from a very early age and throughout my school years I loved to draw and paint. Frederick J Haycock was born in Warwickshire in 1948 where he still lives with his family.He studied at both the Nuneaton School of Art and Coventry College of Art & Design after which he worked for ten years as an illustrator and painted in his spare time.Due to the increasing demand for his work, he began painting professionally in 1982.

Vintage Tractor & Farming Artist- Graham Chambers was born in Hull in 1953. Working in the print industry from the age of 16 producing fine art prints for other well-known artists. During 1993, his daughters bought him his first watercolour set and a no.3 sable brush, this was the start. After spending many years helping his wife Sue in her hobby of showing and breeding the Border Collie, learning to work these wonderful dogs with sheep in North Yorkshire, old tractors and Land Rovers inspired him to tell a story in his paintings.

Ian Nathan was born in 1954 and spent his formative years in the beautiful Devon town of Teignmouth. He showed an ability to paint and draw from an early age, but other pastimes such as boxing and dancing took over for several years. In 1969 he joined the Royal Ballet in London where he trained for four years. He had the experience of dancing at Covent Garden and watching at close quarters one of the most famous dance partnerships of all time, Fonteyn & Nureyev.

I am fortunate to come from a very creative background, my father being a world-class musician and my mother a superb watercolour artist and teacher. My sister and I were always encouraged in the things we enjoyed doing, for me this meant pretty much most things throughout school years, though my strong subjects were always sport, English and especially music & the arts.

I was born in 1961 in the North West of England and educated at Preston High School. Being a keen ornithologist, I had my own bird sanctuary, taking in waifs and strays and nurturing them back to health, which were later released back into the wild.

Steven Townsend is a completely self-taught artist of exceptional talent. Born in 1955 Steven is married with four children and currently resides in Lancashire, England. Prior to joining Northern Editions in 1993, his early work revolved around Wildlife and Landscape painting. Born in Marple, Cheshire, 65 years ago, Bill Geldart was educated at Hyde Grammar school. His earliest memories are of drawing scenes from neighbouring woodlands and impressions of Saturday matinees. After National Service working as a photographer with an RAF fighter squadron based in Germany, he spent some time at the Regional College of Art in Manchester and was in and out of a series of poorly paid and boring jobs before joining Cheshire Life magazine, eventually becoming Art Editor for six years.
